Our R&D division has developed a new cell, with financial support of VLAIO, to perform EIS measurements in the field more efficiently. With EIS or electrochemical impedance spectroscopy the condition of a coating (barrier properties, water and ion permeability, defects, …) can be established. By means of EIS you can estimate better and faster whether a coating needs maintenance or replacement. This of course has a positive impact on planning of maintenance budget.
The cell is simply put against a tank wall, on a pipe, … and a connection with a potentiostat is made. With the new cell, placement and preparation actions all together take less than 5 minutes of time.
